ABI – Ankle – Brachial Index

abpiPeripheral Arterial Disease ( PAD ) is a circulatory problem in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the limbs. When PAD develops, the legs do not receive enough blood flow to keep up the demand. This causes symptoms, most notably leg pain when walking. Over %70 of patients do not know about the disease because they do not feel or recognize the symptoms until severe complications occur. PAD is likely to be a sign of a more widespread accumulation of fatty deposits in the arteries. This condition may be reducing blood flow to your heart and brain, not only to your legs. Ankle Brachial Index is recommended for early detection of PAD. Everybody in the risk group ( 50+, hypertensive, overweight, diabetic, smoking ) should be screened. We can perform the screening in 15 minutes in our clinic . Mesi ABI measurement is simple, non-invasive and painless.
